It's so easy to get distracted - start thinking about our next task or chore, before we're even finished with the first one. This happens to me all the time. But there's one time when we really need to keep focused, to avoid the worst possible outcome. It's in the lot.
When I see a grown-up with a little kid in a shopping cart, I want them to know that THE FIRST ITEM YOU PUT BACK IN THE CAR SHOULD BE THE CHILD.
Not your purse or wallet, not the groceries or goodies... The little one is OUR MOST PRECIOUS CARGO.
You get your purse stolen from the cart? That's bad. Your groceries roll away, in the wind, and spill all over a car which gets scratched by the renegade cart? Almost as bad, and not fun at all. You turn back to the cart, from loading all else, to see your child roll toward a delivery truck? Worst possible tragedy.
Never let go of that cart till your most-precious and priceless love is lifted into a little car seat. I PROMISE YOUR LIFE WILL BE EASIER.
This message was brought to you by my father, and his mother, before him, and my grandfather (who was a Chicago police officer). They loved all children - and you & I do, too. :)
