Now, more than ever, we've all learned we've got to start saving our money, and stop racking up debt. When it comes time to make a major purchase, we've got to be more careful (mindful!) than ever. And there are moments when we are particularly vulnerable... Like when you're picking up a new phone charger, you're in the big box store, it's a week before Superbowl, and that big screen is on sale. This is the most dangerous type of moment for our fiscal health. As a matter of fact, this is the exact moment stores count on, to take advantage of consumers ( us!). However, this is our golden opportunity to hone our super-savvy-spider-spending-senses! Trent, with The Simple Dollar, says you might consider asking yourself things like this: Could I come back for this, later in the week? [half the time, I won't even remember it, the next day] Will it be on sale, later? After I or we have had some time to think about it... like,, after the Superbowl?! Yes! Would this be cheaper, online? Is there some way I or we can remedy this want ("need" LOL), in DIY fashion? Could this create a credit-report situation which would not be welcome? Would this set back the savings plan in a tough way? If we train ourselves to ask the right questions, at just the right moment - and answer ourselves honestly - we'll be just fine.
