Observer Helped Man Out of Burning Vehicle After Crash

A passerby helped a man out of a burning vehicle following a fiery crash at 4:46 a.m. Wednesday morning at the intersection of  Caton Farm Rd and Wesmere Parkway in Plainfield.
According to the Joliet Police, 49 year-old Edward Mendez  was westbound on Caton Farm Rd when his vehicle veered off the road, hit the curb, a sign and a light pole, overturned, and burst into flames. Joliet Police charged Mendez with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, driving under the influence of drugs and driving with a suspended license.
The Joliet Fire Department responded to the scene. Mendez and a male passenger were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Joliet.
