Pet of the Week

Dolly is a female Lab/Shepherd mix puppy born 1/3/2010. Dolly is one of 7 brothers and sisters available for adoption at the Mallard Point Veterinary Clinic in Channahon. The puppies that we offer for adoption have been rescued from rural pounds where they are left or abandoned by people who have not responsibly had their pets spayed or neutered and have been unable to give the puppies away. These puppies came from a pound in rural Tennessee where they were about to be euthanized. You can meet Dolly and her brothers and sisters at the Mallard Point Veterinary Clinic in Channahon.

Odie is a 2 year old male Basset Hound mix. The name "Basset Hound" comes from the French word "bas" meaning low. The Basset Hounds long ears have been poetically described by Shakespeare as: "Ears which sweep away the morning due."  Basset Hounds are gentle, devoted, and peaceful dogs. Odie came from a pound in rural southern Illinois where there are a lot more dogs needing homes than there are people that want them. You can meet Odie and many other animals in need of a home at the Animal Care Center in Plainfield.

Our animals are housed at the Animal Care Center in Plainfield ( 815-436-8387 ), Plainfield Veterinary Clinic (815-439-8700 ), Mallard Point Veterinary Clinic in Channahon ( 815-467-4855 ), Oswego Animal Hospital ( 630-554-7670 ) and Hinsdale Animal Hospital (630-323-1312 ). Available pets can also be viewed at www.plainfieldhumane.com.  Adoption donations range from $29 to $399 and all include spay or neuter, rabies vaccine, first distemper vaccine, fecal test, first worming, heartworm test (if applicable), canine bordetella, feline leukemia test (if applicable), and a microchip identification implant.

At Help Save Pets, the number of unwanted animals flooding into our rescue is skyrocketing. So many sad stories - "Baron" the Cocker Spaniel who was rescued with one eye dangling from its socket, Bailey and Jeters, the Beagle brothers given up by their family due to financial hardship, a litter of week-old pups pulled from a dumpster in 30 degree weather, cats and kittens in danger of losing their lives at the pound due to lack of space... every one of them so deserving of rescue, and a chance for a good home. All have been taken in by HSP, and many more, and now all are hoping to find their forever home. "There is nothing more heartbreaking for all of our dedicated volunteers, than to walk past the kennels of the animals still waiting for their homes on Christmas Eve", says Meg Kremer, Director of Help Save Pets.  "Somehow, it seems much harder during the holidays, when the animals are left behind, hopeful eyes dimming, wagging tails slowly stopping, and you have to walk past them with a heavy heart.

What better gift can someone give, than to offer shelter, care and love to a homeless animal in need? In fact, Help Save Pets has drastically reduced many of the adoption fees on dozens of terrific animals in the hopes of encouraging people to give them a chance!   If you can find the room in your heart and your home, and adopt one of HSP's homeless pets, NOW is the time to please stop by the Animal Care Center in Plainfield, or the Mallard Point Vet Clinic in Channahon and see if there is a furry package of love waiting there just for you! If you wish to see what we have available at all of our veterinary facilities, and see video footage of many of them, please visit our new website at www.helpsavepets.org to view them. We are also looking for Temporary Homes for the Holidays as well - if you are not in a position to take on the permanent responsibility of pet ownership, you can still help out with one of our animals  - please contact us through our website or call: 815-436-2700. Best wishes to all the animals from Help Save Pets!
