Tinley Park Man Killed in Glider Crash in Minooka

A Tinley Park man was killed on Saturday afternoon in Minooka when the glider he was piloting crashed into a field. It was just after 3:30 PM at The Chicago Glider Club, located on W. Airport Rd., that the crash occurred. 69-year-old James W. Patton was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Will County Corner’s Office. The crash occurred shortly after the glider detached from its tow plane. The investigation is being conducted by the Will County Sheiff’s Office, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. A preliminary report is expected in several weeks but a complete investigation could take up to one year.
