Saturday is yet another one of those holidays that many call a “Hallmark” holiday, it is Sweetest Day.

Sure, it’s another reason to buy even more candy this month, but it was originally created back in 1916 on a very sweet thought.  It was said to remind us that even small tokens improve the lives of those around us who are suffering or going without.

In 1921 in Michigan, the candy associations joined forces with the Red Cross and distributed thousands of bags of candy to hospitals, orphanages, shelters, and homes across the state.

I think with the election season upon us – we all might appreciate a few extra pieces of candy and sweet thoughts sent our way…or maybe something stronger!
