Hugo Weaving Won’t Be Back as Agent Smith in “Matrix 4”

Hugo Weaving will NOT be back as Agent Smith in the fourth “Matrix” movie, because of a scheduling conflict.  He said he was in touch with director Lana Wachowski, but in the end she decided that they’d “push on ahead” without him.

It’s possible Agent Smith could be played by a different actor, because the plot supposedly involves younger versions of the original characters.
