Locally Honoring those that served and sacrificed
Although our three-day weekend kicks off the start of summer, it also is a very important time when we honor those that served and sacrificed for our country.
There are many events going on to honor our service members and to kick off the summer season.
Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood will hold its annual Memorial Day program at 11am on Monday. Allen Lynch, a Medal of Honor recipient, will be the keynote speaker for the program.
Joliet Central High School will host an hour-long Memorial Day ceremony on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Gym.
The Plainfield American Legion will honor veterans at its annual Memorial Day Parade and Flag Ceremony starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The parade will begin at Ira Jones Middle School and make its way to the memorial in Settler’s Park.
Romeoville will have a fireworks display at Mistwood Golf Club on Sunday. They will have their Memorial Day ceremony on Monday at the Edward “Doc” McCartan Veterans Memorial on Montrose Drive.
The village of Channahon will host a Memorial Day Service on Monday at 9am at the Village Hall on Navajo Drive.
Bolingbrook hosts their annual Memorial Day Carnival at their Village Hall on Briarcliff Road all weekend. All proceeds will benefit the Bolingbrook Lions Club and the American Cancer Society.
