The Chicago Sun-Times reported that on Friday morning, R. Kelly was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Cook County.

Attorney Michael Avenatti might have evidence to bring charges against R. Kelly. In a statement released on Thursday, Avenatti claims to have a 45-minute sex tape featuring Kelly and an underaged girl.  Avenatti says he was retained by some of R. Kelly’s accusers 10 months ago and he has been working on the case pro bono since then.  The attorney claims the footage falls within the statute of limitations in the state of Illinois and law enforcement hasn’t previously seen the tape. The video has been given to Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx.

A press conference is due to be held at 2 p.m. Chicago time to announce the charges. Kelly has a March 8 court date.
