“Serving Time” At Old Joliet Prison

I, along with Lisa Jordan and Kevin Kollins and our families, were able to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience this past weekend. We volunteered to help clean up efforts to revitalize the Old Joliet Prison. You have no doubt passed it on Collins St. many times and have certainly seen it in the classic movie “The Blue Brothers” and the TV show “Prison Break.”

Kevin has been working with the volunteer group for several months and invited Lisa and I along to help out as well. The work was a bit tedious and dirty, but to see this complex in all its faded glory was absolutely unbelievable.

We are only a few weeks away from the Joliet Prison Break-In fundraiser, featuring music from The Blooze Brothers, M&R Rush, Petty Cash and Hot Mess. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Joliet Area Historical Museum’s continued work to stabilize the Prison in order to make it accessible for public tours and educational programs. Click on this link to find out more and if you would like to volunteer, feel free to send me an email and I will pass it along to the appropriate people.

What a fun time hanging out in the big house!
