Squirrel trashes new home and insurance won’t fix it
How often do you come across a story while surfing the internet and you resist the urge to check it out – well, that’s why I’m here!
I find these things so you don’t have to!
Dateline: Atlanta, GA
Shortly after Kari and Dustin Drees bought their first home last month in Atlanta’s affluent Buckhead district, they went to visit family for the holidays.
Although their house alarm went off while they were gone, friends said the doors and windows were not breached.
When the couple came home, they discovered their house was completely ransacked. The floors and windows were scratched up, the baseboards chewed on and their kitchen faucet was running.
Apparently, a squirrel had fallen down their chimney and was trapped in the house, defecating and scratching at everything to get out. Eventually it made a nest in the couple’s couch.
The new homeowners called their insurance company but were told that they didn’t have “Rodent Coverage.” Squirrels are rodents.
Mercury Insurance did say that if the squirrel was a racoon, the damages would be covered….well, that’s just NUTS!
Show of hands. Who then would have spray painted the squirrel and outfitted him with dark sunglasses? Not that I am endorsing insurance fraud, or anything….
