CD sales have been tanking ever since streaming became a thing. And soon, for the first time since 1986, we’ll be spending more on vinyl records than we are on CDs.
The Recording Industry Association of America released its mid-year report. And people have spent almost as much on records this year as CDs -$224 million in the first half of 2019, compared to $248 million on compact discs.
CD sales were basically stagnant, while vinyl record sales were up 13%. One of the most popular bands to buy on vinyl is The Beatles. Last year, we bought over 300,000 of their records on vinyl.
