As many kids are graduating college and entering the workforce and many high schoolers choosing their colleges and areas of study, what do you want to be when you grow up is top of mind.

We all want the best for our kids, so I thought I would share a recent survey of 2,000 parents who were asked about the careers they want their kids to go into and ones they want them to avoid.

Apparently, the big winners were Engineering, Coding, Finance, IT and those they would like them to avoid included Sales, Journalism, Publishing….hmmm….all careers I’m involved with…..

The top five careers Mom and Dad are in favor of:

  1. Engineering, 48% of parents.
  2. Coding, 45%.
  3. Finance, 39%.
  4. Healthcare, 36%.
  5. I.T., 34%.

And the five careers we don’t want them to have are:

  1. Sales, 2%.
  2. Retail, 3%.
  3. Transportation and logistics, 5%.
  4. Human resources, 5%.
  5. Journalism and publishing, 5%.
